Brooklyn Renegade 2010

11 Jun

The Renegade Craft Fair Brooklyn 2010 was by far my most successful craft show to date. The weather was far from perfect and we lost the tent to the wind gusts towards the end of day 2. But the customers were hard core and continued to shop from our wind blown tent and tables. Once the rain arrived we had to concede since we no longer had a tent to keep our merchandise dry. My sister is the best booth mate a girl could ask for and we had a great time. Thank you Brooklyn and Renegade for another amazing show!

Once we put in a full 2 days of work it was time to spend some quality time with the littles. We ventured out to the Statue of Liberty on Monday which was a super treat for Stella. She experienced her first subway ride and she loved the ferry ride over to visit Ms. Liberty. Roxi packed a picnic lunch for us and we enjoyed the grounds and watching Stella and Cotton run around and burn off some energy. We had tickets to trek to the pedestal of the statue and we were weary of the toddlers making it up so many steps. But they did surprisingly well and the view was incredible. So worth it.

On Tuesday we made the drive out to Coney Island with Papa Sliger in tow. This was his first vacation since his fall last July and he was getting around as well as could be expected. It was nice to see him out of the house with his feet in the sand. We enjoyed Nathan’s hot dogs, The Wonder Wheel, and indulged the little ones in their first ever bag of cotton candy. Pure delight all around. Stella loved the ocean and the waves. She thought she could take off into the water and go for a swim. I had to drag her back to shore by her shirt. We collected sea shells and did our best to avoid the shards of glass in the sand. It is not a pristine beach but it is beautiful in it’s own way.

We arrvied home yesterday and Stella and I have been catching up on our zzz’s. It was an exhausting trip but so much fun. Wish we could visit with family more often but it it great to spend time whenever we can. Now Roxi and I are waiting to hear if we have been accepted to Renegade Chicago this September. We have our fingers and toes crossed!!

Where did spring go?

25 May

So it has been 90+ degrees outside the past couple days and super muggy. Summer is upon us and I just realized that I have been so busy lately that spring seems to have slipped right by me.  The month of May was particularly busy with the opening of MADE, 3 weddings and a high school graduation. Plus gearing up to leave for Brooklyn Renegade Craft Fair next week has has me scrambling to make new displays and lots of new inventory.

And in other exciting news, I have started acquiring displays and vintage treasures for The Foundrie 2010 which is super exciting and a little stressful. I just bought 3 industrial steel rolling carts off of craigslist thinking they would make awesome table bases and my husband burst my bubble telling me they are garbage and there is no way we can get them into the basement. They are large. And super heavy. And a tad rusty.  But can’t he see how amazing they will be in the store? He just doesn’t get my “artistic” (I use the term loosely) vision. So now I have to prove to him that I can make them into something great. I have my work cut out for me. I will leave you with some pics of some of the projects I have been working on as well as some recent fun family outings. Hope everyone is plannning lots of fun for the summertime. It is here!

An Update for Rachel

8 Apr

So this blog has been sadly neglected since October according to my darling friend Rachel. 😉 I honestly didn’t think anyone would miss me so I wasn’t worried about updating. But now that I know I have at least one loyal reader, I feel it is my duty to post a little something. Now the only question is, where do I begin?

Well alot has happened since my last post. I successfully opened a holiday pop up shop  called The Foundrie at Chesterfield Mall featuring work by local artists and indpendent designers. It was pretty much the hardest and longest 6 weeks of my life but totally worth it. I could not have pulled it off with out the help of my amazing family and dear friends so again, a big thank you to all of you.  There is a link to more pics over at www.thefoundrie.com but here is a basic before and after.

Before

After

I took a nice long break during January and to be honest, most of February. I am finally back on track and have new acrylic and stainless steel jewelry in the shop at www.destroyedbydesign.com. Also looking forward to upcoming shows this spring including Renegade Craft Fair Brooklyn June 5&6. Excited to share a booth with my sis www.angelrox.com and for our little ones to have a fun weekend playing together. Here are a few pics of Stella from the past couple of months. She is getting so big and says something incredibly funny about every 5 minutes. Last weekend our dog Ollie got into a nest of baby squirrels and Stella told me that Ollie had “ruined” them. Yes, he did indeed. Tragic and funny at the same time. Happy Spring!!

Had a super fun and super successful weekend in Chicago for Renegade Craft Fair 2009! The weather was fantastic as was the company ( my sis, of course) and the turnout was just amazing. A big thank you to Roy and Shar for stopping by and fetching the PBR and an even bigger thank you to Daphne and Sarah B. for letting us crash at your lovely apartments and for being generally awesome. Daphne makes this incredible yogurt called Better Whey of Life which is probably available at your local Whole Foods. And she is such a sweetheart, you must check it out http://www.betterwheyoflife.com/.

Sadly I chained myself to my table inside my booth all weekend at Renegade so I wouldnt be tempted to spend tons of $ on all of the incredible wares and my photos reflect my self-imposed imprisonment. I only have a few shots of our booth. I didnt even manage to get pics of friends or any of the fun from German Fest on Friday night. I am lame when it comes to remembering my camera. In fact it didnt find its way out of my bag until Sunday afternoon. But theres always Strange Folk Festival coming up and I promise I will photo document the entire event. Pinky swear. 😉
