Saving the planet…

23 Apr

one drink mix container at a time! I cannot bear to throw away the plastic containers that drink mixes are packaged in. They are the perfect size for storing lots of little things around the home and office. But they are quite boring once the label as been removed. The solution? Scrapbook paper, of course! Or if you happen to have scraps of wrapping paper, magazine pages or newspaper those could also look great and be even more eco-friendly. Just bust out your paper cutter and create a new label to go around the container. If you happen to have a circle punch or cutter you can even make a label for the lid. I just used a bit of spray mount to adhere the new labels. And if you want the containers to be a bit more durable you can spray them with any paper sealer from the craft store. I have considered adding stickers to label the contents but I think they are pretty adorable as is. Maybe that will be a project down the road!

Tell me what items you rescue and re-use from your garbage?

This is a fantastic idea! You know, I get a look from my husband everytime I walk to the trash can. It is because then I turn around and bring the trash back to my “studio” (aka 2nd bedroom) for craftiness. I am a trashy lady.

Oh, these little containers are so adorable. I don’t eat Pringles, but whenever I can snag a can I do because they are good for knitting needles and crochet hooks and all kinds of long things that get lost down the sofa cushions.

    Good luck with your blog.

I can’t throw anything away it seems! my kids favorite reuse is the plastic takeout containers that we use to make shrinky dink jewelry. All you need is the clear stuff where it is flat, sand one side with 200 grit paper and design away. Plastic trash into teen jewelry. 😀

Ooh, yes! Thats how my jewelry line started actually. I still make some of my pieces from those #6 plastic take away containers. I am even doing a demo for a girl scout troop this Tuesday. I think they will have so much fun with it!
